Sam's Endorsements

PLG Glenn Pushman introducing PLG Sam Bhargava, as a
Candidate for Governor Elect for 2010-2011, at the October 24, 2009
Joint Council Meeting of Divisions 12 and 13

PLG Sam Bhargava is running for Governor-Elect in 2010-2011 for the EC&C District and I could not be happier.   Sam will make an excellent Governor in 2011-2012 for our great district.

Over the past year when we both served as LG’s for our respective divisions, I have had an opportunity to get to know Sam and his lovely wife Uttra well.   Sam and I worked on many joint Division 12 and 13 initiatives and projects and in doing so drew our two divisions closer together.  Sam works well with others and has many ideas to offer to better our community and Kiwanis presence in it.

Sam and his extended family have given a lot to the community over the years.  Uttra, in the past, was President of the Kiwanniane Club, which is now the Bytown Club in Division 12.

Sam has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa for 21 years. He has served on many club committees and was the Club President in 2005-2006.

He is a builder of strong teams and partnerships to get the job done. He has been involved in many Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, Division 12, and Divisions 12 & 13 projects such as:

- National Child’s Day,
- Joint Divisions 12 and 13 Mega Meetings in Ottawa,
- Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa - Camp Smitty Cleanup,
- Precious Minds Video for early literacy
- Key Leader Event at Arden, Ontario
- World Trivia Night,
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada Memorandum of Understanding
with Kiwanis,
- Marketing Kiwanis through the production of the
Divisions 12 and 13 Brochure, and
- Being proactive in proposing new By-Law changes, and Chairing
Forums at Kiwanis Conventions.

I believe his track record of innovations and success in Kiwanis demonstrates his leadership qualities which are needed in these challenging times.

Sam is soft spoken and strives for consensus when determining a course of action but when action is required he will harness
The Power of Many to see it through.

Please join me in supporting and voting for Sam Bhargava for Governor Elect for 2010-2011 along with his wife Uttra when we gather at our EC&C District Convention in Saint John, New Brunswick in August 2010.

Endorsement for Sam – Peter Nadeau

President, Peter Nadeau, Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, and the Board of Directors endorse Sam for the Candidacy of Governor Elect, EC&C , Aug 10/10.

Kiwanian and past Chair of YCP1 Ross Christensen of Ottawa Club endorses Sam for the position of Governor Elect EC&C . Ross explains Sam’s leadership role in increasing awareness of Shaken Baby Syndrome and creating Precious minds video on promoting  early literacy  for  a vast audience , particularly in North America.

I belong to the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa and it was in my capacity as Chair of the Young Children Priority One Committee that I first had the opportunity to work with Sam in 1998.  The Committee had just produced the very successful “Never Shake A Baby” video / CD and Sam joined to carry on the marketing and continuing fulfillment model for the product has produced continuing demand up to the present. In 1999 Sam initiated a major video / CD project titled “Precious Minds” that focuses on pre-natal and early post-natal nervous system development and its impacts on early learning.  He assumed the Chair of the committee and completed the production to  wide-spread acclaim.  Over 275,000 copies of “Precious Minds” have been sold including a large number to the Government of Ontario for distribution to all new parents.  It was a terrific project which demonstrated Sam’s ability to connect with stakeholders, to manage a complex project and  to deliver the goods.  Of course, this performance is typical of my friend, Sam, as has been shown during his presidency and lieutenant-governorship.”

In an effort to help reduce deaths due to cardiac arrest, we identified the need for more CPR training, defibrillators and the need for easier accessibility of the instrument in Ottawa. As a direct result of our planning and our promoting Maharajas Ball, there were over 90 defibrillators purchased and installed in over 90 locations across Ottawa. One of these very defibrillators saved the life of Robert Thompson at a local skating rink. Click on the video to view Robert’s comments.
